Costume research

The costume is a major part in our production because not only do we have to keep in mind that the film is set in a school but also there is the added difficulty that the film is partly set in the 1940’s during the war.

For the period clothing we needed to do lots of research, this included looking on the internet and looking at old-school photos on the corridor of BRGS.

Here are some photos I took from a picture on the wall of what the children wore in 1948 at our school, BRGS. We notice that the girls seem to wear black pinafores with white collars some long sleeved and other short sleeved. Due to the people being quite close together in the photo is hard to tell if the girls are wearing tights or socks.

So we had a look on the internet and found some clearer images where they are definitely wearing socks, so we have decided that out actors should also wear socks, either grey or white. In any case, we believe that tights would not have been made out of the same material back in the 40’s as they are now and perhaps that would have caused an inconvenience.

For the boys, they seem to wear a white shirt and school tie with cropped trousers and grey/ dark coloured socks.

After conducting our research we have chosen what each of the characters should wear;
